What to expect
Santa Fe is a quaint little town of approximately 3000 people, located in the remote interior of Panama. This is what makes Santa Fe truly special and creates an environment perfect for relaxation, exploring nature and the beautiful Panamanian countryside.
This remoteness also brings with it some additional elements that we feel it is important for our guests to know about. They are a part of the charm of Santa Fe, but it’s nice to be aware before you visit.
Getting here
The road to Santa Fe from Santiago is always in a “state of repair”. Please be wary of the many pot holes along the way. Take it slowly and if following another vehicle, use them as a guide for what lays ahead!
Insects
Living in the countryside brings with it bugs of all shapes and sizes. Mosquitos are common and while all of our rooms have screens on the windows, we do recommend that guests bring spray with them to help prevent bites. Alternatively guests are welcome to purchase some of our natural insect repellant that works exceptionally well.
The Sounds of Nature
Santa Fe has an abundance of wildlife! Chickens and roosters roam the area freely and seeing them stroll the streets of Santa Fe is a part of everyday life. Of course Roosters can be noisy, and unfortunately the roosters of Santa Fe have not been made aware that their crowing should wait until dawn. For those guests who are a little more sensitive to noise, we will happily supply complimentary ear plugs.
Power Outages
No matter where you find yourself in Panama, power outages are a part of life. Power in Santa Fe is quite reliable, however from time to time we find ourselves without electricity for short periods of time. It is rare for this to go on for too long, however, given our remoteness, it is something to be aware of. In the event of an outage we will assist our guests to ensure they are as comfortable as possible.
Weather
Panama has two seasons, Wet (May-Nov) and Dry (Dec-Apr) . Despite the time of year however, Panama is a tropical country and as such temperatures can get quite warm, and humidity is typically very high. Unlike the lower parts of Panama like Panama City, Santa Fe enjoys a high elevation which brings with it cooler evenings and a lovely breeze. Our rooms are not currently air conditioned, however all rooms have a ceiling fan, and a pedestal fan, which is typically all that is needed. Windows have screens and can be opened to create a beautiful cool breeze through the rooms.
